Update From Jeff on the Road

Yesterday and today I've been in Washington DC. Yesterday I met for 2 1/2 hours with Drew Clyde from Prison Fellowship.

PFM is considering a number of uses for the Passing the Baton training course. Please pray for them as they reorganize their ministry and transition to a model that focuses on life-on-life ministry to prisoners and their families.

I spent this morning with the U.S. Senate Chaplain's office. Chaplain Barry Black is a great guy and was pleased to get a copy of the Handoff book. His chief of staff Alan Keiran has expressed a significant interest in using the Passing the Baton training course in their Bible studies with senators, senators' spouses, senate staff, and senate employees! They've had Bible studies with these groups for a long time, but this would shift the focus from discipling Bible study attendees to equipping them to disciple others. Please pray for these folks--what they're doing is VERY exciting, and right in the heart of the U.S. Capitol!

Tomorrow I travel to San Francisco to address the tri-annual conference of the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod), California, Hawaii, Nevada district. Please pray for the folks who run this event (Bob, John and Joel). They have a strong desire to transition the LCMS from a curriculum-driven youth focus to a life-on-life discipleship focus. Our event Saturday is the introduction of this idea to key pastors and lay leaders. It represents a very significant point of departure for this large denomination and I deeply appreciate your prayers.

Finally, of the many schools that have adopted Passing the Baton as a training tool for their faculty and staff in the last few days, these five have specifically asked for encouragement and prayer:

  • Covenant School, Dallas, TX
  • Trinity Christian Academy Trinity Christian Academy, Knoxville, TN
  • Cordova Christian Academy, Cordova, TN
  • Murphy-Cates Academy, Kingston, TN
  • Fellowship Christian Academy, Fort Worth, TX

Together God is using us to have a significant influence in preparing the next generation of culture-shaping leaders. I'm proud to walk with you!
