Jeff Myers, along with businessman Tim Krupa and Passing the Baton board member Paul Stanley will meet on June 14 in Colorado Springs with Samson Makhado, the Africa director for the Association of Christian Schools International, to formally initiate PTBI's long-awaited project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I've told you before about our project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, partnering with the Churches of Christ in Congo to prepare teachers in 11,900 schools to mentor, disciple and coach the next generation of leaders for that country. This is an opportunity to shape an entire nation! Our first trip would be at the end of July to meet with Bishop Namuke, a highly respected Christian leader who has been chosen to represent all 65 protestant denominations in turning 11,900 schools into Christian schools. We would have a return trip in November.
Please pray specifically for the following:
- Funding. We see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape a nation by preparing its future leaders, but the economy is still weak here and donors are gun shy.
- Planning. As you can imagine, there are a thousand logistical details involved in training trainers and preparing for them to train and support 77,000 teachers across a nation that is not accessible by either roads or communication technology.
- Favor. The government wants this project to happen but it is under constant pressure from political instability, economic distress and military attack.
From a human perspective, preparing teachers and church leaders to pass the baton of godly faithfulness is the only hope for the future of the Congo. The odds are against us and we're facing the onslaught of Muslim radicals who have seemingly unlimited funds provided by our purchase of Middle East oil. But God is bigger! Would you commit to praying daily for this project?
